| VistaPro Memory Requirements |
VistaPro uses Windows virtual memory manager. Under most conditions you dont need to worry about memory management, but if you notice sluggish performance and lots of disk activity while rendering, you may need more system memory.
How much memory Vistapro requires depends on what features you wish to use. Large image sizes with antialiasing and flare effects, very large landscapes, and the use of large texture maps all add to the amount of memory needed.
Use the following method to determine your needs. VistaPro requires about 2MB for code, stack, tables, etc. Add to this the landscape size and image size.
Landscape (DEM) sizes are as follows:
|
Small (VP1 size) |
0.5320 MB |
|
Large |
2.1280 MB |
|
Huge |
8.3790 MB |
|
Mega |
33.5160 MB |
Image sizes are as follows:
|
320x200 |
0.3 MB |
|
640x480 |
1.5 MB |
|
800x600 |
2.4 MB |
|
1024x768 |
3.9 MB |
|
4096x4096 |
83.9 MB |
A Small landscape with 640x480 images takes: 1.0 + 0.532 + 0.3 + 1.5 = 3.332 MB.
A Small landscape with 1024x768 images takes: 1.0 + 0.532 + 0.8 + 3.9 = 6.232 MB.
The largest is the Mega landscape with 4096x4096 images: 1.0 + 33.516 + 16.8 + 83.9 = 135.216 MB!
Using the Flare option approximately doubles the memory used by the image; the Antialiasing option quadruples it. Using both together requires no more than Antialiasing alone.
Each texture map in Vistapro requires about 6 bytes per pixel. So a 256x256 pixel texture map will require about 0.4 MB of memory. |
