MCNV Conversion Tool Information
MCNV converts USGS ASCII DEM and USGS SDTS DEM landscape files into Vistapro landscape format. You can load one or more USGS files to fill a region, then save the region as Vistapro DEM files. MCNV can only load one type of file at a time -- you cannot mix ASCII and SDTS files to fill a region.

Open SDTS
Use this function to select the USGS SDTS files you wish to convert. You will get a file dialog that allows you to add or remove filenames from a list. SDTS saves all of the DEM information in just one file usually named "XXXXCELO.DDF". When you have chosen all the files you want, press OK. MCNV will then load all the SDTS files and display a topographic map.

Open ASCII
Use this function to select the USGS ASCII DEM files that you wish to convert. As with Open SDTS you will get a dialog box that allows you to select the files.

Save Region
This will save the area as "small" Vistapro DEM files -- compatible with all versions of Vistapro. You will be asked for a base file name. To this will be added "_00_00.DEM", where the first two digits are the row number and the second two digits are the column number of the Vistapro DEM files. You can use any base name you like but I suggest you use only two letters to keep the file names consistant when used on systems that only support 8.3 file names.
