MarsX is an updated and exciting collection of recent Mars photographic and topograpic data collected by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor mission. MarsX presents the data in an easy to use program. You can browse the surface of Mars in 2D, overlay names of features, adjust the brightness and contrast to hilite details, preview the image in 3D, and export the photo and topo data for even better 3D renderings in Vistapro.
Special Note: This product is an excellent addition to the rendering software, VistaPro. Check out the VistaPro page to see how to animate these MarsX landscapes! |

Alignment Tool:
The included Alignment tool works by showing you the image you are working with. Drawn on top of it are white spots representing areas with steep slopes. It's pretty easy to see how to align the topo data to match the image, especially around craters -- you just move the ring of topo data until it overlays the rim of the crater. You can control the threshold steepness (ie, less steep areas of the topo aren't drawn, more steep areas are) so as not to have too little or too much topo detail during alingment. In just seconds, with a few mouse clicks, you will have perfectly aligned the topo and photographic data and saved it for use in Vistapro.

| Key Features |
To export a DEM file with the image data mapped onto it, start MarsX, navigate
to the area you want, select File -> Save Vistapro DEM. Use the Save File
dialog box to navigate to where you want to save the file and pick a name.
MarsX will then give you a dialog that allows you to fine tune the
registration of the image and topographic data. Align the two, and select
OK.Whatever was visible in the MarsX window is saved as a Vistapro
landscape.
Since you can change the size of the MarsX window, and change the
brightness and contrast, you can save zillions of variations. Within Vistapro
you select File -> Open Landscape and select the file(s) you exported from
MarsX. |
